Proving Ground Design, Media Programs, Benchmarking and more
Cayman is fully experienced in leading all aspects of comprehensive, OEM-level vehicle dynamics programs. We have created, implemented and delivered development programs from early prototype stages through engineering sign-off and the start of mass production and subsequent quality assurances. This expertise is also applicable to system or component development programs. Some key elements include:
Benchmarking of competitors: Subjective benchmarking via side-by-side evaluation drives and objective benchmarking through on-road testing (vehicle level), K&C testing (system level) and component testing if more thorough analysis of a specific component is needed (i.e. Flat-Trac tire testing or shock dyno testing)
Vehicle/Headcount/Equipment/Facilities Development Resource Plan: The complex task of ensuring all resources are available at the proper times requires a complete resource plan for each stage of a development program. Key resources that define this plan include vehicle availability, proving ground availability, supplier lead times, expected weather, laboratory constraints and program timing milestones.
Engineering Verification and Sign-Off Planning: Once all ride, steering, handling, braking and error state development is complete, final verification and sign-off testing is required to ensure the salability of the final vehicle. Typical examples include ensuring handling safety requirements are met, steering system integrity tests, wheel/tire damageability testing and any required FMVSS or other homologation testing.
Quality Assurance Metrics: Once the vehicle is in full-scale production, metrics must be in place to ensure vehicle dynamics performance meets design intent. Examples include alignment capability, wheel/tire uniformity specifications and ride height setting capability.
Road geometry, surface type, layout and safety considerations are all vital to achieve maximum function for large capital investments in proving grounds. Cayman Dynamics engineers have worked closely with architects, contractors and users to specify the content and layout of multiple proving grounds new construction and expansion projects. Examples include:
Solid, fundamental chassis design is required for a successful vehicle dynamics development program. Cayman experts work closely with your chassis engineers and designers to optimize all-new suspensions or modify existing architectures. Examples include:
Creating a successful media or customer program to introduce and showcase a new vehicle, system or component is crucial to its success. Cayman experts have participated in multiple large- and small-scale media events and will work closely with your public affairs team in the following areas:
The detailed evaluation skills and techniques required for vehicle dynamics also translate to many other customer attributes. As a by-product of Cayman’s vehicle dynamics experience, our experts are highly skilled at evaluating overall vehicle performance as viewed by the customer or media. Examples include:
At any time during the vehicle development process, Cayman experts provide your team an unbiased, honest and confidential assessment of your vehicle’s strengths and weaknesses.
